Our skin is the largest
organ in our body. But not every person has the same skin type. It varies from
one person to person. There are five main skin types- normal, oily, dry,
combination and sensitive skin.
Normal
skin
A
well balanced skin type which is neither oily nor dry is a normal skin. When
there is no major open pores on your skin and your skin behaves perfectly in
all climatic conditions then you are blessed with a normal skin.
How to
take care
People
with normal skin don’t have to take any extra measures to make their skin
behave. Regular usage of sunscreen lotions and a light moisturiser is more than
enough for them.
Oily skin
This
skin type has large pores on their skin which oozes oil and is always shiny.
Our skin naturally produces oil which is known as sebum to keep our skin
smooth, soft and moisturised. The overproduction of sebum results in oily skin.
People with oily skin are mostly irritated with the oily shiny face, but get
this, oily skin doesn’t wrinkle easily. It means that the oily skin doesn’t
wrinkle up or shows wrinkles on the skin. How cool is that!!
How to
take care
Do
not wash your face frequently in order to remove the oiliness of the skin. The
more you wash your face the more oil it secretes to balance the skin. So just
wash your face thrice a day with an oil free face wash. Use mattifying
sunscreen lotions to achieve a matte look.
Dry skin
The
underproduction of sebum causes dry skin. They are dry, flaky and itchy at
times. If you feel you skin being stretchy after washing your face then you, my
friend, have dry skin. There are no visible pores. Since the sebum is low the
dry skin tends to wrinkle easily.
How to
take care
In
order to make up for the low sebum secretion, dry skin needs to be moisturised
regularly with cream moisturisers. Serums are boon for the dry skinned beauties
and your skin will drink it up. Use mild facial cleansers and be sure to moisturise
your skin once you wash it. Use sunscreen lotions as dry skin are more
susceptible to sun damage.
Combination
skin
The
mix of both dry and oily skin is known as the combination skin. People with
combination skin have oiliness in the centre of their face, forehead, nose,
chin, commonly known as T-zone. The rest of the face is dry. Combination skin
is prone to break outs.
How to
take care
Multi-masking
is the key to take care of combination skin. Apply oil free moisturiser for the
oily T-zone and rich cream moisturiser for the dry cheeks and rest of the face.
If a certain product causes you break out stay miles away from that product.
Sensitive
skin
Sensitive
skin is prone to irritation and is sensitive to products. Whatever products you
choose do a patch test before applying it on your skin.
How to
take care
Use
mild facial cleansers free of chemicals. Make it a habit of using natural or
herbal products that is comfortable for skin. Sunscreens are must.
Some
common pointers for every skin type

plenty of water in right intervals and keep your body hydrated.
